THE NORTH FACE
The often closed experience of a major trade show booth is opened as an invitation to engage with
the climbing community, exchange ideas and challenge us to explore.
At the summer Outdoor Retailer show, The North Face tasked the Big-Giant team with developing a completely inclusive booth and act as an invitation to participate in the upcoming World Climbing Day. The goal was to encourage anyone attending the show to Never Stop Exploring by engaging with the booths multiple programable spaces and challenge themselves both through the active participation in climbing on the USA Climbing supported boulder that included recreations of Alex Honnolds now iconic Free Solo route, or in ideas through a speaker series in support of the brands mission of conservation and inspiration. In addition, multiple larger common gathering areas and intimate niches provided both communal gathering areas as a place for attendees to meet and share ideas as well as intimate spaces that could be used for anyone to duck out of the chaos and take a moment to themselves.
In contrast to the highly flexible elements of the open areas that facilitate interaction of all comers, the booths climbing wall inspired faceted backdrop served as both the canvas for the multi-layered “Walls Are Meant for Climbing” call to action, and as a barrier to insulate more pragmatic spaces that allowed The North Face Team to connect in a more intimate or fully private spaces.
The booths honest materiality, open transparent feel, and overtly visible construction all support the brands message of inclusivity and performance in service of the explorer in all of us. This blending of artful expression that stirs emotion and efficient functionality that solves challenges is the embodiment of what the The North Face teams look to achieve every day as they strive to provide the best gear for their athletes and modern day explorers.
